England’s Housing Supply

10/12/2018

The annual dwellings statistics for housing supply in England was published by the Government recently and shows 222,190 net additional dwellings from April 2017 to March 2018. These figures show a 2.2% increase from 2016/17 where 217,345 net additional dwellings were recorded.

The figures show that England is close to its highest new build completions since 07/08, where 200,300 new builds were completed compared to the latest figures of 195,290. The new build completions is the largest component of the net additional dwellings across England.

These figures show a positive outlook on the new build housing market and rate of growth; but they are still significantly lower than the Government’s target of 300,000 homes per annum. The housing market will need to see a big push with new build housing if it is to meet the country’s local and national needs.
